Oak Ridge, NJ: Laumont Digital, a well-known professional photo lab and fine
art printer, has become the first Manhattan site to install a Cruse Synchron
grand format scanner. Renowned for their stunning limited edition Iris and
pigment prints of art from regional and national artists, Laumont chose the
Cruse scanner for its ease of use, high resolution imaging abilities and unique
Synchron lighting system. This patented moving light source (synchronized
to the scan head) features variable cold-cathode illumination, and a newly
implemented "Texture" mode allows the scanner operator to capture the finest
details of oil (or acrylic) on canvas paintings.
Per Philippe Laumont, owner, "We had been using digital camera backs for large format copy work, but were less than pleased with the results and the cumbersome workflow. We did extensive research before purchasing the Cruse Synchron scanner, which we believe is the finest large format scanning device made. Our customers require excellence from us, and are willing to pay more for truly superior input and output."
In addition to scanning paintings, Laumont has successfully imaged multi-layered architectural renderings using the Cruse scanner. "Other image capture devices were unable to produce the level of detail and color fidelity possible with the Cruse", quotes Philippe, "In fact, one job remained open for nearly two years because we lacked the capability of producing a successful scan. No matter how we tried to image the original, we just couldn’t capture the gold tone or silver tone inks beneath layers of velum. The Cruse scanner gave us excellent results on the first scan!"
Another application that Laumont will promote is first generation digital art. "The Cruse scanner will provide our artists with a truly flexible tool for the creation of digital works of art. The scanner’s ability to handle three-dimensional originals makes it an ideal platform for the creation of still life artwork", says Philippe.
By adding high resolution, grand format scanning, Laumont Digital provides a unique service that cannot be matched by competing systems. Like the artists they serve, Laumont Digital embraces innovation to constantly improve their products and services.
